The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently awarded six grants as part of an effort to improve the integration of standardization into the curriculum of business and engineering programs at U.S. colleges and universities. Two of the grants were awarded to projects overseen by Purdue University and SES - The Society for Standards Professionals. The end products of the grants are represented on this page and in the videos. A pilot study is being conducted with these two approaches to integrating standards into education curriculum.

Multimedia Case Studies

One of the best methods for teaching students how to apply standards in the workplace is to give them case studies representing on-the-job scenarios. The case studies presented here are engaging, realistic, and challenging. Well-known standards development organizations worked with us to develop each case study. The scenarios are:

  • Forklift – Underwriters Laboratories
  • Tailhook – IPC
  • Nail Gun – ASME
  • Cruise Ship – ASTM
